And here we are, the final conclusion to this Christian dystopian! I think I’ve been late with just about every review for this series. Whoops.

Out of all the books in this series, this one was perhaps the most satisfying when it comes to Mellie and Friedrich’s relationship. Why? Because MAJOR SPOILER IN BOLD:

They get MARRIED. Oh, they are so adorable as a couple together. Literally grinning throughout their interactions and banter.

Mmmm, it was good. Not cheesy. Not over the top. Just realistic and fun. To be honest, probably my favorite part of the book.

Now, when it comes to other characters, things weren’t so good. When I say that, I mean one particular character. Karl. Our stunningly irritating antagonist. Seriously, he goes from bad to worse in this one, which makes for an intense plot…

Yes, this one had an intense plot. From beginning to just before the end, things remain that way, as they always do with Kristina’s dystopian books. There’s an element of mystery to this one as well.

However, this book just wasn’t my favorite in the series except for the romance. Mainly because I felt that things were getting a little redundant by this point in the series. Minor spoiler in bold:

I didn’t feel there was enough growth in either Mellie or Friedrich. I would’ve liked to see Friedrich finally admit that he was simply not enough to protect Mellie, and to surrender it to God’s will. For Mellie, I’d like her to finally allow herself to cry for once and let herself be a broken mess in front of someone. I mean, good grief, Friedrich is her husband. If she can’t cry in front of him, who can she cry in front of?

I think the author was right to call it good at three books instead of four for this series. Besides, as I remember her saying, these poor characters couldn’t stand much more 😅 It's intense.

Overall, just not my favorite book in the series. I think I’d have to say that Midnight Will Come is my favorite. But still, a good way to end it, and the romance was the best of all three.

I received a free copy from the author for an honest review. These thoughts and opinions are my own.

Thank you Kristina for allowing me to read and review this series despite being so terribly late with reviews!

(This will be my last ARC review for awhile, I think. Right now reading ARCs isn’t working out. I may still post book reviews, but they probably won’t be for ARC’s, unless I see an ARC that I really want.)

Until the next review,

Abby
