About Abby
Abby Burrus is a Christian author who is also an equestrian and reader of all different types of fiction. Her favorite genre is Christian fantasy, her favorite color a beautiful shade of purple, and her favorite drink is coffee. She is an avid lover of horses and has a paint pony, Shorty, whom she gives treats to and works with. She enjoys finding beauty around her and wants to reflect it in her writing.
When she's not scrubbing the horse tank, petting the dogs, reading good books, experimenting in baking, or outside in the sunshine, she can be found writing stories intended to point up to God and His Goodness.
Who Am I
What Genres do I Write?
I write in a variety of genres. I've written novels, short stories, and flash fiction. Christian Fantasy, Equestrian fiction, Young Adult, and Teen Fiction are my main genres. All of them are clean and free of vulgarity.
I'm an author, equestrian, and Christian. A devourer of books since I was young, I became a writer of them, and aim to write the same kinds of books that I enjoyed, and still enjoy. There can never be enough good fiction, or for that matter, non-fiction.
I aim to write stories that inspire, give courage, challenge problems, or simply provide a break from everyday life. I don't believe the lie that fantasy and fiction is just an escape. It can be an experience, a window into another world. It can help us catch a glimpse of the World to Come. And it should always point us to God and help us to live out our own stories with Him.

Riding and training horses is my main career path, but first and foremost I am a Christian. And I don't believe that just because writing has a Christian focus that it has to be cringy, unrealistic, or fail to portray darkness as it really is. Many of my favorite books are proof that this is possible. And at the same time, I intend to only let the darkness of my stories amplify the light in them.
Some of my work has a distinctly Christian emphasis, and others, like A Challenge, do not. But all of it will be free from vulgar language and inappropriate scenes.

Who is Shorty?
Shorty is my paint pony whom I adore. If you're on my newsletter or blog, you will hear about him sometimes. I used to ride him, but since he injured himself in 2022, he's been living in retirement and will probably stay that way. I still work with him on the ground and love him very much.

I want this to be a place of refreshment on the journey, and me, a companion as we walk this long road together. Because in the end, this isn't our true home. We're Christian from Pilgrim's Progress, we're Jewel the Unicorn longing for our true home, we're the Psalmist crying out "How long, Lord?"
