Indie Books for Hurricane Relief Fundraiser

Writer's picture: AbbyAbby

Hello everyone! This is a quick blog post to announce that my book, Beneath the Willow Tree, is in the Indie Books for Hurricane Relief fundraiser. From the 7th to the 11th of October, all profits from participating authors and books will be donated to help with relief effort after the devastation of Hurricane Helene.

If you don't know anything about Beneath the Willow Tree, please check it out below:

Beneath the Willow Tree about a young slave girl who must decide whether freedom is worth the risk of trusting a man she thinks shouldn't even exist, with betrayal in her past and the possibility of pain in the future if she does. He claims he can do the impossible, what she's always longed for- but what will the cost of trusting him be?

This choice, this Man without a Mark,

could be her redemption or her undoing.

Nova's world is controlled by the Mark. Embedded in the skin of all born in her world, those who are stronger control the weaker by it. Pain, betrayal, and fear are imprinted on Nova's soul as her Mark is in her skin. Her one solace in this Mark-controlled world is a willow tree on the bank of a lake that she goes to sit under at the end of the day.

But one day, she meets a Man different from them all. He is Mark-less. And beneath the willow tree, he tells her who he is, and the choice he offers her. The unheard of, the impossible, what she has dreamed of.

But for Him to do it, she must trust him,

something she is sure she cannot do again.

Nova's story comes from a personal place for me, and to be honest, I'm amazed that so much is packed into it as it is. The theme of trusting God even when life hurts, is a close theme to my heart, but it ended up being that so much more was woven in this short story. I didn't start out intending for Beneath the Willow Tree have the themes it does, or for it to have beautiful allegorical elements. But in the end I believe it turned out just the way God intended it to.

The e-book for Beneath the Willow Tree is 0.99c, and the paperback is 6.00$. Like I said, all funds from sales from the 7th to the 11th will be donated to relief efforts. So, if you've been thinking about reading Beneath the Willow Tree... Also, just for this fundraiser, below you can download and read the first half of Beneath the Willow Tree, even if you aren't subscribed to the newsletter, so you can see if it's for you or not.

Below is a complete list of all the books in the fundraiser. There are over 20 authors and over 50 books participating in this fundraiser, so there are plenty of books to look over and choose from.

Not all of these books or authors I know enough about to endorse, but there are some that I'm excited to see in this fundraiser, books that I'm interested in reading or have read, like...

H. S. J. Williams with her fantasy books Moonscript and Collusion

M. C. Kennedy with her fantasy books A Wolf's Rose (see my review of an older edition here) and A Bird in the Snow

Kaytlin Phillips with her fantasy book Emberling (which you can preorder and get goodies for! And any of the books by Kaytlin I think would be good.)

Jayna Baas with her historical fiction books Preacher on the Run and Patriot at the River

Erin Phillips with her fantasy books A Crown of Chains and A Bond of Briars

And so many more... The complete list is below. Please check each of the books to make sure they're something you're okay with reading before you buy. I can't guarantee all of these are Christian books but I think most of them are. This fundraiser has a wide variety of genres in it as well! And there's one etsy shop, Vintagely Izzy, that will be donating profits as well, they sell blind dates with a book. I got one and it was fun, so if that sounds like something you'd like, check them out.

If you want the offical blog post from Kaytlin Phillips, the organizer of this fundraiser, please see this blog post.

And whatever you do, whether you give or not, please keep these people in your prayers. There is so much devastation that has occurred, so many loved ones lost. Prayer is desperately needed.

Until the next post, may you be blessed,

Abby 💜
